Shelves!
We’ve given up on the idea of a wall of shelves over the wallpapered wall between the dining room and kitchen for two reasons. Well, two main ones.
One, we’ve grown fond of the wallpapered wall and don’t want to obscure it. And two, we can’t take built-in shelves with us if we ever move.
So instead we bought these:
And already they are full.

Finishings
Just a few photos of how things are turning out in the house. The wine ‘rack’ is finally complete, although sadly quite empty at the moment. It does look rather tragic, doesn’t it?
I finally managed to find a magnetic knife holder at Banks. I really should have gone there in the first place. I think it’s the best thing in the world at the moment, especially because I can hang my other utensils on it too.
We also put the shelves in the kitchen up today…well, I say we but…anyway, they look grand. I’m very pleased with them.
And finally, the piano in its rightful place. I had a (rather rude) piano man come in and evaluate it. He was of the opinion that we should chuck it out. Literally. Onto the garbage heap. My plan to put a digital piano in it also failed to impress him because he thought the piano wasn’t exactly a looker which is kind of the reason I bought it in the first place. In any case, he simply confirmed what I’d already known. The piano is simply a (pretty!) shell that I will later (much later) put a digital piano into.

Black Floors
They look just as good as I imagined. The skirting boards and walls still need to be painted, but once they are, the contrast should be quite striking.
Also, the door with its glass and handle. It still needs to be painted white, to match the skirting boards.
This job seems to have taken a really long time. This coming week, although it won’t be a full week of work (probably), will be week number four. I’m looking forward to having my room back. In fact I was looking forward to having my room back when I got back from India a week ago.

The New Door
Renovations for 2011 started two weeks ago. So far they have ripped out the carpets in the two rooms, ripped out the cupboards and sanded the floors, including that of the passageway. Today they put a door in my room where my window used to be and I have to say it looks fantastic. Ta da!
The floors will soon be stained dark and sealed, with new skirting boards put in and the walls painted. More pics to follow.
